The Africhild Centre is a multi-disciplinary research institution dedicated to improving the lives of children across Africa. Established in 2013, the centre focuses on generating high-quality research to inform policy and practice related to child welfare, protection, education, and health. The centre collaborates with various partners, including Makerere University, the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development in Uganda, ChildFund International, UNICEF, and other esteemed organizations. AfriChild Centre is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of children in Africa through innovative research and advocacy.

Contribution towards VAC reduction:

Increased attention to VAC as a result of existing evidence on prevalence, magnitude and context of VAC demonstrated by the following national-level strategic frameworks;

National Child Policy 2020 was informed by studies on VAC.

First ever Uganda National Child focused legislative agenda

Increased local capacity to analyze and utilize VACS data for decision making among policymakers and practitioners

About Us

In 2016, the Impact and Innovations Development Centre (IIDC), with support from the Wellspring Philanthropic Fund (WPF), launched the Learning Initiative on Preventing Violence Against Children (VAC) in East Africa. The initiative aimed to bring together key partner organizations from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania to enhance their collective capacity in preventing VAC through evidence-based programming and collaborative learning.
