Transforming Lives: Preventing Violence Against Children Across East Africa
TTPO Uganda is a leading national non-governmental organization that focuses on improving the mental health and psychosocial well-being of vulnerable individuals and communities in Uganda. Established in 1994, TPO Uganda has extensive experience in implementing community-based programs aimed at addressing violence, trauma, and psychosocial distress, particularly for children and women. Through partnerships with local governments, international donors, and academic institutions, TPO Uganda develops and scales innovative interventions that protect children from violence, abuse, and neglect.

As a key partner in the Learning Initiative, TPO Uganda has implemented several innovative, community-led approaches to prevent violence against children (VAC). One of their flagship programs, Watch My Neighbor, supports vulnerable children in Lira by empowering community members to take an active role in VAC prevention and ensuring children return to school.
Improved Community Accountability: The Watch My Neighbor initiative created a strong community-driven response to VAC, ensuring that children at risk are identified, protected, and supported through reintegration into the school system.
Reduction in School Dropouts: Through active community involvement, TPO Uganda facilitated the return of 447 children to school, many of whom had dropped out due to violence or psychosocial challenges.
Enhanced Learning and Documentation: TPO Uganda’s collaboration with leading academic institutions such as the University of Washington and Makerere University has strengthened their monitoring and evaluation systems, allowing for more robust learning and scale-up of successful interventions like Watch My Neighbor
