Transforming Lives: Preventing Violence Against Children Across East Africa

Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) (Tanzania)

Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) is a Tanzanian organization dedicated to protecting children’s rights and promoting gender equality. Founded with a mission to combat violence against children and gender-based violence, CDF engages communities, educates youth, and collaborates with national and local leaders to create a protective environment for vulnerable groups. CDF operates across Tanzania, prioritizing rural and underserved regions where violence prevention and child protection resources are limited.

Implementation of the Gender Response Reporting System (GRRS):

CDF developed and implemented the Gender Response Reporting System (GRRS) across Tanzanian communities. The GRRS is designed to improve community response and accountability in cases of gender-based violence and violence against children, providing a secure reporting system for quick and effective interventions.

Reach and Impact :

Positive Changes and Outcomes :

Increased Reporting and Responsiveness: The GRRS has enabled a significant increase in community reporting, facilitating faster responses to incidents and reducing the rate of unreported violence. This enhanced responsiveness has fostered a more protective environment for children.

Community Accountability: The system has shifted community norms, making it easier for individuals to report violence. This collective responsibility has strengthened social accountability, contributing to a culture of safety and vigilance..

Supportive Social Norms: With the GRRS in place, communities are more proactive in VAC prevention. The reporting system has encouraged open discussions on child protection, reinforcing protective social norms and reducing tolerance for violence.

Through the Learning Initiative, CDF’s GRRS has not only increased community responsiveness but has also fostered a shift towards collective accountability and safer environments for children in Tanzania.

About Us

In 2016, the Impact and Innovations Development Centre (IIDC), with support from the Wellspring Philanthropic Fund (WPF), launched the Learning Initiative on Preventing Violence Against Children (VAC) in East Africa. The initiative aimed to bring together key partner organizations from Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania to enhance their collective capacity in preventing VAC through evidence-based programming and collaborative learning.
